Women's Activities and Self Help (WASH) House

The Womens Activities and Self Help (WASH) House is a community based information and resource centre, run by women for women, in Mt Druitt. It provides information, referral, community development, counselling, support services and group work for women in the Blacktown Local Government Area.

The aim of the WASH House is to reduce the impact of poverty, social disadvantage and violence in the lives of women and girls in the local area, through the provision of women-centered, quality, appropriate, timely, culturally sensitive and accessible services.
Current projects:

  • Crisis counselling: Short term crisis counselling (10 sessions) available 5 days per week for a range of issues
  • Information and support: Generalist case management services available Monday to Friday, including intake, assessment, assisted referrals and advocacy
  • CORRE Family Support Service: Supports parenting women with an intellectual disability or learning difficulty, through case management, home visiting, advocacy and a group program
  • Community development: Develops and supports a range of projects and initiatives to resource and strengthen the local community, including education and interagencies
  • Emerton Community Project: Two op shops located in Emerton Shopping Village offering affordable clothes, furniture and household goods to the local economically disadvantaged community - both op shops promote sustainable ÔÇÿrecyclingÔÇÖ
  • Volunteer recruitment and coordination program: Develops job readiness for people wanting to (re)enter the workforce, as well as personal resource development, such as self esteem, confidence and communication skills
  • Staying Home, Leaving Violence: A casework and support program enabling women (and children) ending a violent relationship to remain in their own home
  • Group work program: A variety of social, health, education and self help groups, including activities such as yoga, tai chi, belly dancing, zumba, art, parenting programs, craft, sewing, meditation and self healing
