Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children

The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) is Australia's major independent special educator which provides high quality educational services to children who have significant hearing and/or vision impairment, including children who have additional disabilities.

RIDBC's programs include:

  • National early childhood and school age services
  • Five preschools (including two in regional areas)
  • Three dedicated schools for either hearing or vision impariment
  • Support for students attending mainstream preschools and schools
  • A paediatric audiology centre
  • Community support services
  • A university college for teacher training and research, in affiliation with the University of Newcastle

RIDBC employs a diverse range of staff across its many programs and it's ability to provide high quality educational support services is directly dependent on the experience, knolwedge and prefessionalism of staff.

RIDBC employs a wide variety of specialist trained teachers, therapists and support staff working in multi-disciplinary teams and it has a strong commitment to ongoing professional development. Renwick College, affiliated with the University of Newcaslte, is located at the RIDBC office in North Rocks, and offers nationally recognised postgraduate studies in special education.
