Management (M) 11

People in management roles in the disability sector develop and deliver flexible and responsive services and supports. You will manage the workforce and resources that support people with disability to achieve their goals and aspirations, and to live in their community as they choose.  There is a diverse range of roles within the Management job family such as:
  • Program Managers
  • Area Managers
  • Program Coordinators
  • Regional Managers
  • Assistant Managers
  • General Managers
  • Operational Managers
As a M 11, you’re a senior line manager with a broad understanding of the organisation and sector, professional practices and the internal and external environment. You’ll be expected to manage resource allocations and the prioritisation of significant changes in organisational requirements, as well as manage risk and stakeholder relationships.
Due to your extensive experience, you’ll supervise a team of professional team leaders and/or technical or administrative staff, overseeing the health, safety and wellbeing and financial and general accountability for individuals and teams working within a human rights framework.
You may be the senior manager or CEO of a small service provider comprising one or more locations, or you may be a program manager or manage a function or range of functions at a large service provider organisation.
Qualifications and experience
Even if you don’t have formal qualifications or training in disability, you’ll certainly have other skills, knowledge, capabilities and transferable qualifications and experience that will support you to have a successful and enjoyable career in the disability sector.
Each employer will specify qualification or equivalent experience requirements for particular roles in the Management job family.
To be considered for a M 11 role you will generally need to have a relevant tertiary qualification and a post-graduate qualification in a related specialist area. You’ll also have a broad understanding of your organisation, the disability sector, professional practices and internal/external operating environments.
