My passion for the disability field started in 2000. I was 16 years old and in year 11 at School.
Our school was asked for volunteers for the 2000 Paralympics. I thought this could be fun and I put my hand up.
For the two weeks the paralympics ran I met some amazing people and fell in love with the industry. Watching wheelchair athletes, amputees and people with intellectual disabilities from all around the world representing their countries to fight for the gold medal was inspirational.
Once I finished school I nannied for a few years as I love children but there was a gap somewhere.
I started working for Sunnyfield as a casual in March 2005. Over the years I went from casual to PPT to full time and worked my way up to an Assistant Manager. In 2009 I left my full time position in Sunnyfield to start a new role with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT. I still work for Sunnyfield PPT in drop in support and full time for Guide Dogs.
Across both jobs I meet so many different people who come across challenges sometimes more often them myself, but each and every one of them take it in their stride. I love working in the disability field and with my two jobs I have the ability to service people from babies to the elderly.
This is my passion, my job and this will be my life long career.
