As an SPS 7 you will be required to use professional skills, knowledge and experience to assist and support people to achieve their goals and aspirations, to lead a healthy and fulfilling life and, to live in the community as they choose. 

 

As an SPS 7, you’re likely to be a new graduate in your selected discipline and you’ll generally be working alongside other specialists and professionals.  At this level, you’ll be developing an understanding and capacity to deliver straightforward services specific to the needs of people with disability in your professional area.  You’ll also be developing the capacity to work with a person and their family in areas such as education, employment, recreation and family support.  You will apply person centred approaches throughout all aspects of your role.  

 

Qualifications and experience

 

There are job roles in the SPS job family where formal qualifications and practice registration are a pre-requisite. Employers will specify qualification or equivalent experience requirements for particular roles. To be considered for an SPS 7 role, you’ll have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent knowledge and experience, or a 4 year degree with some experience. As there is always more to learn, you’ll also be expected to undertake regular professional development to increase your knowledge and skill set.
