carecareers’ Workmate of the Year award is a celebration of all of the brilliant people who work in disability, community and aged care. It’s also a chance for our audience to tell us about the exceptional people they work with.
The many, many entries tell extraordinary stories of unsung heroes who go above and beyond. Individuals with great generosity of spirit and passion for the people they work with. Regardless of what you do or where you work in this sector, it is a source of pride to be sharing a vocation with people like this.
There are so many people deserving of recognition – you can find them on our Wall of Fame. In the end, however, the Workmate of the Year is voted by carecareers’ audience from a shortlist of 10 nominees.
Step forward Sagarika Malawanna, Workmate of the Year 2018. Sagarika is a Personal Carer at Help at Home, SA . Her colleagues and friends describe her as “One of the most beautiful carers I know” and “a shining light for all who know her”.
Passionate, Affectionate, Considerate, sympathetic, observant, very good team worker, fantastic (and a Great cook!) were other descriptions of Sagarika. Not a bad list!
We particularly liked “Sagarika never has a down day! She is always in happy spirits and brings a lot of joy and laughter to work!” It probably won’t surprise you to learn that she is modest too. When we told her she had won the award, Sagarika’s main priority was to thank the team that supported her.
Thank you to everybody who nominated or voted for a workmate. Your generous words remind us again and again that it’s great people who make this sector what it is.
