Queensland Training Opportunities
The Queensland Government has a range of training opportunities to start you on your career pathway or broaden your existing skills.
You can find general information about training and careers on their training and careers website including specific information about Training for work in the disability sector.
Not all jobs require people to have a qualification to start work. Many disability services organisations offer training on the job, particularly to people starting out in the sector. Job entry level requirements vary and employers may be looking at a range of experience and/or other values-based attributes.
Before committing to a training pathway, contact local employers to identify specific work opportunities and determine which qualification might be the most valuable.
The Queensland Skills Gateway allows you to search and browse training information, including available courses, training providers, government funding and career pathways. The gateway also includes a tool to help you check if you are eligible for government subsidised training in Queensland.
The Queensland Training Subsidies List and the User Choice qualification and price List identify qualifications and skill sets that attract a government subsidy, including those applicable to the disability, community and aged care sector.
You may also be eligible for financial help with your studies.
Support
The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training training and careers website also has information about training support and specialised assistance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability and mature age workers.
TAFE Queensland English Language and Literary Services (TELLS) supports delivery of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program. AMEP provides practical English skills for eligible new migrants and refugees that will help you settle into the community, undertake further study or gain work. SEE provides the opportunity for job seekers to undertake employability skills training to give you the skills you need to look for a job.
