Home Maintenance
A job as a Home Maintenance Handyperson, commonly referred to as a handyman, includes changing light bulbs, fixing taps and other ad-hoc chores that clients may not be able to undertake themselves.
More specialised home maintenance services include minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical work, external maintenance (eg, fences, gates, paths, one-off yard and rubbish clearance and cleaning of gutters), roofing (eg, tiles and corrugated iron), repair of appliances, fittings and furniture (eg, kitchen cupboards and chair backs), and internal and external painting.
All home maintenance service provider employees, volunteers and sub-contractors must undergo a police check prior to commencing work.
A Home Maintenance Handyperson needs the following licences:
- A driver's licence
- A full builder's/contractor's licence, to provide the majority of home maintenance services
- Other professional licences are required to carry out specialist work (eg, electrical wiring, plumbing, gas fittings, air conditioning and refrigeration)
