Domestic Assistants

A Domestic Assistant provides domestic assistance, support and personal care to people living in their own homes. Tasks include assisting clients with showering, dressing, personal hygiene, taking their medications and achieving other daily tasks.

The role may also involve assisting clients with their shopping, taking them on outings in their local area and providing carer respite for their families and carers.

Domestic Assistants need the following skills and knowledge:

  • Caring and supportive attitude
  • Respect for the rights of others
  • Adaptability
  • An ability to perform domestic duties efficiently
  • Effective listening and customer service skills
  • An ability to relate well to people who are elderly, infirm, have a disability or who may be recovering from an illness or operation
